Thursday-Saturday: Dearborn Library to Host Book Sale for Snow Branch

Fixtures and furniture from the shuttered Dearborn branch library will be auctioned off the last day of the sale.

No one can bring Dearborn's back to life–but they can get a chance at taking home some of their favorite books.

Friends of the Library-Dearborn will host a used book sale at the library on April 19, 20 and 21. The sale will run from 1-8 p.m. on Thursday, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Snow Branch closed permanently on Sept. 2, 2011, admist a series of city budget cuts.

Items for sale will include books, magazines, compact discs, DVDs and audio books from the closed branch's own shelves.

Fixtures and furniture–including file cabinets, desks and shelving–will also be auctioned off on Saturday. Items can be viewed and bids can be placed between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Bid results will be available on Thursday, April 26. Winners will be contacted, and results will be posted on the Dearborn Public Library website.

All items will be sold on an "as is" basis, and all sales are final. Successful bidders will be required to schedule a date and time for the removal of their items.

Funds raised will go back to supporting library programs, Director Maryanne Bartles explained.

“We’ll try to get as much as we can," she said. "That’s what supports our children’s programs and anything special we want to do."

On Thursday, the first day of the sale, purchases will be limited to a maximum of $100 worth of material per person. Dealers and any usage of scanning devices will be allowed only on Saturday, the final day of the sale. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own bags or boxes.

According to Bartles, restrictions in the buying will be in place to allow residents to be able to take home books that may have special meaning to them.

"The biggest thing I want to make sure of is that residents get the opportunity to buy things for a reasonable price to support the library," she said.

Payment must be made by cash or check.

Snow Branch Library is located at 23950 Princeton in Dearborn.
