Flags Ordered to Half-Staff in Honor of Sen. George Hart
Hart served on the Wayne County Commission, Dearborn City Council and the Michigan Senate.
Gov. Rick Snyder on on Thursday ordered U.S. flags within the state Capitol Complex to be lowered to half-staff today through Monday, Feb. 11 in honor of former state Sen. George Hart, of Dearborn.
Hart died Jan. 31 in Albuquerque, NM. He was 88.
Flags should be returned to full-staff on Tuesday, Feb. 12, according to a release sent out by the governor's office.

“Sen. Hart leaves behind a legacy of outstanding commitment to public service,” said Snyder in a statement. “I extend sincere condolences to his wife, Catherine, and entire family during this time.”
Hart, the son of Armenian immigrants, was born in Detroit and graduated from Wayne State University in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He served on the Wayne County Commission and Dearborn City Council prior to his election to the Michigan Senate, where he served for nearly 30 years.

Hart was cremated Thursday. Memorial service details have not been finalized.
This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2006-10. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.
When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U. S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
