UPDATE: Dearborn Shelter Requests Help Finding Lost Dog

Laverne, a dog who was recently adopted from the Dearborn Animal Shelter, is missing in Ferndale. The shelter is gathering a search party on Jan. 15 to help find her.

Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter has requested assistance in finding a dog that was recently adopted from their shelter, but has gone missing from her new home. They're asking that volunteers gather at the Shelter at 10 a.m. Jan. 15 to organize a larger-scale search for Laverne.

Laverne, a dark chocolate-colored Labrador mix, was adopted earlier this month from the and went to live with a family in Ferndale. However, according to information on the shelter's Petfinder description of the dog, she "darted out of the house," which is located on Gardendale Street near Eight Mile Road and Livernois.

She was last seen on Jan. 12 around 1 p.m. on Allen Road in Ferndale. The man who reported the sighting had seen Laverne's flyers, and recognized her when he saw her eating out of his garbage. Laverne ran south on Eight Mile Road before the man could catch her.

Laverne is a personable 4-year-old dog with a short-haired, brown coat and white front paws, as well as a patch of white on her chest. She is friendly, but is sometimes shy around people. She is well-behaved around other dogs and cats and is microchipped.

In addition to the search party, the shelter has asked that residents of the Ferndale and Oak Park area keep a look out for Laverne and call the shelter if she is found or seen at 313-943-2697. An e-mail can also be sent to ffdas@yahoo.com. Click here to see Laverne's Petfinder profile.
