Dearborn Residents Report More Basement Flooding Following Storms

Dearborn DPW crews are investigating reports of flooding at 70 homes in the Ford Historic Homes neighborhood.

Several residents in Dearborn are dealing with issues related to power outages and flooding from Monday's thunderstorms.

Heavy rain showers rolled through parts of southeast Michigan on Monday evening, dropping more than an inch of rain on an already saturated ground, and leaving more than 1,000 homes and businesses without power in Dearborn. According to DTE Energy, roughly 83 customers were still reporting issues Tuesday afternoon.

In addition, a power outage forced Bryant Library to close Tuesday. It is expected that the branch will reopen for its regular hours on July 17.

"We don't have any large scale outages, so we expect to have power back up by late afternoon," DTE spokesman Scott Simons said.

Mary Laundroche, director of Dearborn's Department of Public Information, said the city's Department of Public Works received about 70 calls from residents who reported water in their basements.

"DPW crews were out through the night. They have been investigating the problems, which appeared to have occurred in the Ford Historic Homes neighborhood, and at Michigan and Brady streets," Laundroche said in a written statement to Patch.

Laundroche said the DPW is reporting some sewer blockages in certain areas of the city, however that is only an initial assessment. She said crews are gathering information and data from multiple sources, and will issue a report to city officials next week.

DPW Director Jim Murray said there were 90 calls related to flooding as of Tuesday evening.

Residents with flooding in their basement may call the city's Sewer Division at 313-943-2042 during business hours and 313-943-2100 after hours.

Residents who want to file a claim with the city may visit www.cityofdearborn.org. The claim form is on the homepage, under the video area. Information on how to clean up areas damaged by water can also be found on the city's website.
