Dearborn, Regional Construction Continues with Few Breaks

Road construction still hobbles motorists across metropolitan Detroit, while causing slight disturbances in Dearborn's usual routes.

With temperatures heating up, motorists have even more headaches to worry about while on the roads this week.

Local Construction

In Dearborn, Gulley Road bridge construction north of Michigan Avenue is fully under way, detouring southbound traffic to Cherry Hill, Ford Road or Michigan Avenue.

The project should wrap up in about a week.

Also in west Dearborn, the between Mason and Monroe expected to be completed by Memorial Day is still closed, although the project appears to be days from reopening.

That project began in April as part of city efforts to split water and sewer lines throughout the city.

In east Dearborn, Chase Road between Ford Road and Warren since Feb. 15.

Traffic has been shifted to the east half of Chase and reduced to one lane in each direction. Dearborn police have advised drivers to find an alternate route on that part of the street, although Chase is not closed completely until Henn Street.

Construction on the section of Chase between Ford and Warren is expected to last through July.

Wayne County

Eastbound I-94 at Haggerty Road will experience lane closures during the day on Saturday. As part of the project, the ramp from southbound Haggerty Road is closed for construction Saturday, too.

The single-lane closure of southbound I-275 over Van Born Road is winding down. That project is scheduled to be finished at 9 a.m. Friday.

The southbound I-75 ramp to Northline Road in Wayne County reopened earlier this week.

In Detroit, eastbound and westbound McNichols, Schoolcraft and Plymouth Roads over M-39–which has been closed since February–also should reopen at 3 p.m. Friday. The Joy Road overpass, however, will be closed until Aug. 1.

All lanes of M-39 will remain closed between M-10 and I-96, with an expected completion date of Oct. 31. Multiple lanes of M-39 are also closed between I-96 and Ford Road until the end of June.

Oakland County

Starting Wednesday, June 15, the northbound I-75 ramp to westbound M-59 will be closed through June 29. The posted detour utilizes the northbound I-75 ramp to eastbound M-59 and the northbound Squirrel Road ramp to westbound M-59.

In conjunction, the southbound I-75 ramp to eastbound M-59 is closed through Wednesday, June 15.

Macomb County

In Macomb County, westbound I-696 has single lane closures between Wagner Road and Gratiot. In addition, the westbound I-696 service drive from Gratiot to Mound also has intermittent single-lane closures.

Eastbound and westbound I-94 between Eight Mile and 11 Mile also has single-lane closures daily for lighting work until June 30.

St. Clair County

Starting Monday, northbound and southbound Allen Road over I-69 in Port Huron will be closed for bridge painting until the end of the month.

Eastbound I-69 from M-19 to Stapleton Road is also scheduled to be finished at midnight Monday after a right lane closure slowed traffic for the entire week.

Another long project slated to be finished Monday in St. Clair County is eastbound and westbound I-69 from Riley Center Road to Burt Road.

The connector ramp for westbound I-94 to I-69 also reopens at 7 a.m. Friday, June 17. In addition, the Lapeer connector ramp at westbound I-94/I-69 is scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. Friday, June 17. The eastbound I-94/I-69 ramp from Water Street, however, is closed until Sept. 25.
