Dearborn Public Library Renews Fines for Food Program

The donation program will run Aug. 1-12.

Give some food, and this August, the Dearborn Public Library will get rid of some fines.

The second annual Food for Fines program runs Aug. 1-12 at all Dearborn libraries, including the , , and .

During those dates, library patrons will receive a $1 reduction in their library fines for every food item donated. Items must be nonperishable and nonexpired.

There is no limit on the number of items donated nor amount of fines cleared, but the donation can only be used for overdue library materials. Patrons cannot apply the donation program to pay for lost or damaged materials.

All donated food will be given to the Dearborn Firefighters for distribution to families in need through the Burn Drive program.
