Dearborn Animal Shelter Offering Canine Adoption Discount This Dog-ust

This week only, the shelter has drastically lowered its adoption fees for dogs.

This week, potential adopters can get a doggone good deal on an adoptable puppy or dog at the .

In celebration of the month of Dog-ust, the shelter is running a special on dog adoption fees through Saturday, Aug. 13. All available dogs can be taken home for a $50 adoption fee. In some cases, that's a savings of almost $200 from normal fees.

Recent discounts have been due to the being brought into the shelter this spring and summer, the shelter recently explained. .

One option on the canine end is Russell, a handsome mastiff-Labrador retriever mix. Only 18 months old, this big guy came to the Dearborn Animal Shelter as a stray and is shy at first around new people. He will need some gentle time and patience with his new adoptive family, but likely would be a good pet for nearly any home.

The adoption fee for a large adult dog such as Russell is normally $140, but is reduced for this week only. Adoption fees include a basic medical exam, behavior assessment, age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite and worm check, spay or neuter, heartworm check, microchip ID, collar and tag plus dog-care information.

Adopters are also eligible for pet insurance from PetFirst HealthCare at an introductory price of $5 for the first month. The price includes accident and illness coverage with any veterinarian. Adopters must register their pet within 20 days of adoption by calling 866-937-PETS, or visiting www.petfirstadoption.com.
