Cheese Recalled From Dearborn Dairy Company Due to Contamination

Listeria bacteria found in several types of cheese distributed by Dearborn's Green Cedar Dairy.

The state of Michigan has announced the recall of two types of cheese from a Dearborn company, WXYZ TV reported Wednesday morning.

The two products recalled from , located in Dearborn at Michigan Avenue and I-94, are the All Natural Ackawi Cheese and All Natural Chives Cheese with a sell by date up to July 1, 2012.

The products are believed to be contaminated with the bacteria listeria, based on two cases of human listeriosis being investigated by the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Wayne County Public Health Department. In both cases, the people contaminated were exposed to Green Cedar's products.

Green Cedar Dairy is a wholesale company, distributing products in Wayne, Macomb and Oakland Counties.

Listeriosis, caused by ingesting the bacteria listeria, can cause fever, muscle aches and flu-like symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In women who are pregnant, the infection can be more serious, leading to "miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn."
