4th-Grader Wins Statewide T-shirt Design Contest

Madelyn Chau of Scotch Elementary in West Bloomfield won Running Fit's Martian Marathon T-shirt contest.

Madelyn Chau, a fourth grade student at Scotch Elementary School in West Bloomfield, has won a statewide T-shirt design contest.

Chau designed a T-shirt for Running Fit's annual "Martian Marathon" in Dearborn that featured aliens running in their space ship as it hovered above the earth. The shirt was selected as the winner among children ages 12 and younger. The contest called for students to design a shirt that captured the spirit of the annual 5K and 1-mile children's run.

"I was just thinking of how to put martians and running together, and I got this idea," she said about the shirt design.
