Yogurtown Celebrates Grand Opening

Dozens of customers filled the store's lobby on Friday to celebrate the frozen yogurt business in Dearborn.

Friends, family and dozens of customers filled the lobby at Yogurtown in Dearborn on Friday to celebrate the restaurant's grand opening.

The business officially opened its doors in January, however owner Celia Nasser said her family wanted to wait until the spring to celebrate its success.

"The reception from the community has been very positive so far," she said. "A lot of people are surprised we're doing a grand opening this late, but we wanted to wait for the weather to break.

"This is our unofficial kick-off for the summer. We're letting people know that we're open and that there's a new yogurt shop in town."

The business boasts 10 flavors of self-serve frozen yogurt that rotate weekly, and a topping bar with more than 50 condiments.

"It's all self-serve and you pay by weight," Nasser said. "It's quite a unique concept."

Mayor John B. O'Reilly, state Rep. George Darany, and members of the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce were on hand to help cut the ceremonial ribbon.
