After a little less than two years in business, Dearborn restaurant Cedars Coney Island and Grille has closed its doors, Dearborn Patch confirmed Friday.
The restaurant was located off of Michigan Avenue on the Newman Street strip, tucked between and .
Owners of the restaurant Ali and Sam Berro, who were local to Dearborn, were not immediately available for comment. However, employees in nearby businesses said that the owners cleared out the spot within the past week.
After renovating the spot, Cedars opened in July 2010. At the time, Sam Berro told the Dearborn Press and Guide that they loved the location.
“There’s free parking and it’s in the heart of west Dearborn,” he said. “It’s a prime location.”
However, Berro stated last year that problems with visibility kept business slow, as the restaurant's signage could not be seen from westbound Michigan Avenue.
Locally purchased halal meats, plus a Mediterranean twist to the food, kept the meny and Cedars unique. But it wasn't enough to keep the restaurant afloat.
