Maid Green Supports Cancer Patients With Free Home Cleanings

The Dearborn company partners with Cleaning for a Reason to help female chemotherapy patients.

When you or a loved one is diagnosed with a serious and debilitating illness, the last thing on anyone’s mind is cleaning the house.

Now Maid Green, a Southeast Michigan cleaning company based in Dearborn, is giving families peace of mind through a partnership with the international nonprofit foundation Cleaning For A Reason.

"Cleaning can often be tedious and time consuming. Our goal is to give back to the community by donating our services to customers going through chemotherapy," Maid Green owner Nelson Ayala said.

Maid Green, with offices in Michigan and Florida, specializes in eco-friendly services including dusting, vacuuming, and sanitary wiping of door knobs, countertops, light switches, etc. Other services include laundry, bathroom and kitchen cleaning, carpet cleaning and minor clutter organization.

The company only uses biodegradable products to clean in order to reduce the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the home.

"We’re happy to help those in need have a little peace in their lives with a clean home," Ayala said.

The company will provide up to four free two-hour cleanings, once a month. In order to apply, customers must fill out an application online and submit a physician’s verification of treatment. Once the information is reviewed, patients are matched up with a Maid Green team.

Ayala said since partnering with Cleaning for a Reason, the company has helped customers in Northville, Grosse Pointe Woods, Plymouth and Dearborn.

Donna Liese of Dearborn is currently undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer and applied to Maid Green earlier this year.

"The experience has been wonderful," she said. "My biggest side effect from the chemo is fatigue. I want to clean, but I just don't have the energy to do it."

Liese said her husband assists with the day-to-day upkeep of the house, but he is often away on business in Lansing during the week, so the pro bono work of Maid Green is welcomed.

"I'm not a neat freak, but when something is dirty, it bothers me," Liese said. "It's been such a blessing to have a clean house."

Ayala said the company is currently looking for more home applicants.
