is perhaps best known for their one-of-a-kind wedding cakes and tortes, which they've been dishing out to loyal customers from their Outer Drive location in Dearborn for more than 50 years.
But it's time to shake things up.
The family-owned business is putting the finishing touches this week on Iversen's Express, a new branch location of the bakery that will be located at 22441 Michigan Ave. The bakery will be sandwiched between Cedar Grille and Shwarma, two other recent additions to the strip, which also includes and .
Set to open Sept. 26, Iversen's Express will focus less on weddings and more on of-the-moment goodies for visitors coming by from early in the morning to late at night. Expect to see breakfast-style baked goods such as Danish pastries, as well as cookies, brownie bars, cupcakes and "yummy cups," described as portable versions of the bakery's popular tortes.
Iversen's owners expect to stay open as late as 11 p.m. on weekends to accommodate after-dinner customers looking to satisfy their sweet tooth.
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in October.
