'Hiring Our Heroes' Job Fair for Vets and Military Spouses Coming to Dearborn

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations to host a job fair for military veterans and their spouses on April 4.

The event is part of the Chamber’s nationwide “Hiring Our Heroes” initiative. More than 300 hiring fairs in 49 states and the District of Columbia have been held, and more than 14,000 veterans and military spouses have received jobs.

"Hiring Our Heroes” will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, located at 15801 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn.

Participating businesses include: Aflac Insurance, Art Van Furniture, city of Dearborn, Dearborn Country Club, Dearborn Police Department, DTE Energy, Hewlett-Packard Co., Michigan Air National Guard, Oakwood Healthcare, Inc., Terumo Cardiovascular Systems, and the University of Phoenix, among others.

"This is a great opportunity for our veterans," Renee Aloe, director of membership services for the Dearborn Chamber said. "Last year we had more than 1,000 job seekers attend the fair, and some landed jobs right on the spot.

"It's so humbling to see some of these men and women come in nervous, and leave happy."

In addition to job opportunities, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, along with representatives from the State of Michigan's Veterans Services Division, will help connect veterans with valuable financial and health services.
