Henry Ford Health Celebrates Opening of Dearborn Vision Center

Starting Aug. 1, all of Henry Ford Health System's Dearborn vision services will be available in one convenient location.

The Henry Ford OptimEyes Super Vision Center opened Monday in the new Henry Ford Medical Center, located at 5500 Auto Club Drive just off of Ford Road.

The 140,000-square-foot facility includes 65,000 square feet of space for Henry Ford. The remaining is expected to be leased out to private-practice physicians.

With the vision center's opening, services currently offered at the Henry Ford Medical Center-Fairlane and on Michigan Avenue will be consolidated into a single location and a number of new services will be added, including an on-site full-service lab for same-day glasses.

The Henry Ford OptimEyes Super Vision Center will offer comprehensive optometry and ophthalmology care, including complete eye examinations and diabetic eye exams; evaluation and treatment of eye injuries; advanced medical and surgical treatment for eye conditions, including those affecting the retina, neuro-ophthalmology conditions, cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration; and ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Additionally, pediatric eye care will now be offered by Henry Ford Ophthalmology at this location.

More Henry Ford Health services are expected to be moved to this location in the near future. Women's health, pediatrics and physical therapy will make the move in November, while dermatology, after-hours urgent care, pharmacy, laboratory and radiology services will be added soon after.

The development marks one of within the past year in Dearborn. The , located at Michigan Avenue and Schaefer Road, opened officially on Jan. 3 under the Oakwood Healthcare umbrella. Meanwhile, opened a new School of Nursing, also located on Schaefer, in 2010.
