DEARBORN: Ford Recalls Explorer, Taurus to Fix Child Safety Locks

The Dearborn-based automotive company is recalling 13,000 vehicles built between Nov. 29 and Dec. 12, 2012.

Ford Motor Company is recalling 13,000 Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS cars and SUVs due to a malfunction with the child safety locks on the vehicles' rear doors.

The recall affects 2013 model cars sold mainly in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

According to a press release from the Dearborn-based automotive company, the safety lock feature can be turned off when the doors are opened or closed. The malfunction could allow a door to be opened unintentionally from the inside door handle. Ford representatives said no injuries have been reported.

The recall covers cars and SUVs built between Nov. 29 and Dec. 12, 2012. Owners can bring their vehicles to an authorized Ford dealership to replace the door latches at no cost.
