Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce President Jennifer Gieiring is stepping down, according to a letter sent to chamber members Monday.

Gieiring has accepted a new position with Hiring Our Heroes, veteran employment initiative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Giering has served as president of the chamber for more than seven years.

“As I have stated on many occasions, it is an honor and privilege to have served in this capacity for over seven years,” Giering wrote in a letter to chamber members sent out Monday. “During such time, I feel grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to grow with this respected and dynamic chamber while working with some of the most respected, talented and ambitious leaders in this region.”

The move, however, won’t be the end of her work with Dearborn businesses.

Under Giering’s leadership, the Dearborn Chamber partnered with the U.S. Chamber in 2012 to bring the Hiring Our Heroes job fair to Dearborn, drawing thousands of veterans and area businesses together.

The organization will host a second job fair on April 4 at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

Giering will be working to promote the Hiring 500,000 Heroes Campaign, the Veterans Job Bank, and the Fast Track Map to business owners across the country.

“I look forward to working with many local chambers and businesses in this new role,” she added.

A new chamber president has not been named as of Monday.
