Dearborn Animal Shelter to Host Adopt-a-Thon at Westborn Mall

The shelter is seeking more adoptive families for homeless animals; event set for Saturday.

Many adoptable animals in the Dearborn Animal Shelter await the day they find a home to call their own. This summer is no exception, especially as rescued cats and kittens continue to flow into the shelter at an unprecedented rate.

To help encourage prospective pet owners to consider adopting, Westborn Mall offered to be the host venue for a special adopt-a-thon taking place Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Located at the intersection of Outer Drive and Michigan Avenue, Westborn Mall is very accessible with lots of traffic during the busy back-to-school shopping days.

"It’s a great time to consider bringing home a new pet family member. Summer vacations are beginning to wind down and your home gets back into a routine, a good time for a furry companion. We hope to find matches this Saturday for homeless animals and families looking for a new loved one," said Elaine Greene, executive director of the Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter.

The adopt-a-thon will be under a large tent in the Westborn parking lot.

Along with the adoptable animals, the shelter will have adoption counselors on hand, a meet and greet area and reduced adoption fees. There will be specials in the mall from participating retailers and a radio station appearance from 2 to 4 p.m. by WDVD 96.3.FM’s on-air talent Dana from “Blaine & Allyson in the Morning."
