Dearborn Animal Shelter Hosts Adopt-a-Thon Saturday

Volunteers will have 150 cats and dogs available for adoption at the Home Depot store in Allen Park.

The Dearborn Animal Shelter will host an "adopt-a-thon" event at the Home Depot in Allen Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It is the largest offsite adoption event the shelter has ever hosted, with up to 150 adoptable animals to choose from.

Counselors will be on hand to help potential adopters find their new best friend, including a meet and greet area to get to know dogs a little better in a separate section. Attendees will enjoy adoption specials and shop shelter merchandise and Fido Bakery items.

Home Depot is providing free birdhouses and assembly for children, while supplies last. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., guests can meet WDVD 96.3 host Allyson Martinek from “Blaine & Allyson in the Morning." From 2 to 4 p.m. guets can meet Chris Edmonds from Today’s 105.1 FM.

The store is located at 3163 Fairlane Drive in Allen Park.

Currently, the Dearborn Animal Shelter is in the midst of the $100K Challenge from Rachael Ray and the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. During the summer, the shelter must increase the number of adopted animals by at least 300 compared to last year to be in contention for grant money up to $100,000.
