The Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s popular Black Tie & Tails fundraiser will take place Friday, Oct. 25.
This year’s gala features a Roaring '20s theme to commemorate the Friends' 20 years of service to the city of Dearborn.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Dearborn Inn, 20301 Oakwood Blvd. Guests are encouraged to get into the swing of things and celebrate in full 1920s style. Don’t have a fedora or a flapper frock? Lynch’s Theatrical Department Store is offering 15 percent off your purchase, just mention the Black Tie & Tails or Dearborn Animal Shelter.
Since its inception, the fundraiser has been a true community event that has attracted local celebrities, athletes, auto industry and business leaders, politicians and citizens, all giving generously to help fund the Friends' ongoing efforts to care for and find permanent homes for unwanted animals.
More than $1 million has been raised since the start of the fundraiser in 2001; this year’s target is to top $130,000.
The event is sponsored by Johnson Controls Vice President of Engineering MaryAnn Wright, and Bob Sayles. Special guests include honorary co-chairmen Congressman John and Mrs. Debbie Dingell. Fox 2 Sports Director Dan Miller, the play-by-play voice of the Detroit Lions, will emcee the event, including the exciting live auction.
Each year, a wide array of metro Detroit area businesses, artists and private individuals donate items such as tickets to sporting events, tours, dinner excursions, weekend getaways and luxury merchandise. Steven Bernard Jewelers has created a one-of-a-kind piece, expressly designed for the Friend’s 20th anniversary. Leading up to the evening, many auction items can be previewed online.
This year, one lucky raffle winner will take home a pair of beautiful Edwardian-style 18 karat white gold earrings donated by Dearborn Jewelers of Plymouth. These earrings contain 72 round brilliant cut diamonds with a total 1.13 carat weight. The retail value is $4,725.
Since its inception Black Tie & Tails has raised funds benefiting more than 28,000 rescued animals. Tickets for Black Tie & Tails are $175 per person and are available online or by calling the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
The Dearborn Animal Shelter is located at 2661 Greenfield Road, and is operated by the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
