Antique Stained Glass on Display at Village Framing

Stop by now through April to see Detroit Stained Glass windows dating back to 1929.

You don't have to go to the Detroit Institute of Arts to see antique pieces of art— in Dearborn has their own works on display.

Through April, four of 20 original stained glass windows from the historic Detroit Stained Glass Works are available for viewing at Village Framing.

On loan by St. Vincent Sara Fisher Center, Village Framing owner Tom Clark explained that only 10 of the windows are left of the original 20.

Each window, handmade in 1929, shows a scene from a different nursery rhyme.

Detroit Stained Glass Works, which closed in 1970, was the earliest known glass studio in Michigan, according to the Michigan Stained Glass Census. Started by artists Friederichs and Staffin in 1861, the company went through several transformations before coming to its final name and status in 1914.

The company made windows for churches, homes and more in Michigan and beyond out of its two workshops in Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.
