Photo Gallery: Arab International Festival
This weekend in east Dearborn is all about carnival rides, live music and celebrating Arabic culture.
The 16th annual Arab International Festival has taken over Warren Avenue in east Dearborn for the weekend of June 17-19.
The three-day festival had thousands of people walking the streets all weekend, with families taking their children on rides, teens getting henna and winning carnival prizes and adults chowing down on some the area's best street cuisine.
Though there was a disruption Friday in the festival due to anti-Islamic protesters that resulted in several arrests, the festival began as planned with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by local officials, as well as the start to the weekend's games, rides and performances.

It also began without Quran-burning Florida Pastor Terry Jones, who had promised to rally there after speaking at earlier in the day. However, Jones' demonstration was cut short after counter-protesters mobbed him in the street on his way to the festival, causing him to cancel his second rally.
Day two of the festival on Saturday saw even larger crowds, and was blessed with mostly sunny skies and not a drop of rain all day.
