Ford Center's New Comedy Series to Kick Off with Charitable Show

Funds raised by Comedy for a Cause will benefit the Going Green Foundation.

Local and national comedians will come together this Sunday for a show that will benefit Dearborn's Going Green Foundation.

The show will feature Last Comic Standing comedian Louis Ramey, as well as storyteller Norm Stulz and local comic Coco, performing in the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. The laughs start at 8 p.m. in Studio A.

Organized by Going Green founder Maureen McIlrath—who herself has comic roots—Comedy for a Cause will kick off a series of comedy shows at the FCPAC. McIlrath got the idea from contacts she had in the comedy business, and said she hopes that the shows will bring in a new audience to the center.

Here's a look at the lineup at the Studio A Comedy Cafe, which will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. ad 10:30 p.m., Dec. 7-Feb. 16.

As for the first show, McIlrath said it will fund the Going Green Foundation's ongoing mission of developing a community garden near Crowley Park in southwest Dearborn. In 2012, the garden donated nearly 1,000 pounds of food to Dearborn residents and youth, as well as the Help's on the Way food bank in Dearborn Heights.
