'Slumdog Millionaire' of Documentaries to Be Screened at Arab American National Museum

Waste Land, the multiple-award-winning and Academy Award-nominated 2010 documentary film by director Lucy Walker, will be screened April 19 at the Arab American National Museum.

The film was shot over a period of nearly three years, and it follows artist Vik Muniz as he travels from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump. There he photographs the catadores—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials.

Waste Land was scored by musician/DJ Moby, and the film was honored with a 2011 Academy Award nomination in the Best Feature Documentary category.

The screening begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the Lower Level Auditorium at the Arab American National Museum. A panel discussion will follow the screening.
