HFCC Spring Jazz Concert

The Henry Ford Community College (HFCC) Music Dept. will hold its Spring Jazz Concert at the Adray Auditorium in the MacKenzie Fine Arts, which is located on the main campus, at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27.

 The following HFCC music groups will perform at this year's concert:

• Studio 110: This eclectic mix of musicians, ranging from recent high school graduates to retirees, has performed a wide selection of jazz favorites at many Detroit-area events.
• Big Band: Founded in 1981, the Big Band has performed at major jazz festivals all over the world, including Carnegie Hall, Switzerland, Hawaii and the Virgin Islands.
• Blue Fusion: This entertaining vocal jazz group consists of approximately 12 vocalists and a rhythm section, performing in a variety of styles.
• Midnight Blue: This accomplished vocal jazz group consists of approximately 10 vocalists and rhythm section, performing the most challenging vocal jazz arrangements.

HFCC is home to the largest music program of all two-year colleges in Michigan. The musicians in HFCC ensembles represent a cross-section of HFCC’s student body. Music ensembles from HFCC have regularly toured and performed at special events across the country and in Europe.

In January 2009, HFCC’s Big Band and Midnight Blue Vocal Jazz ensembles provided the dance music for the Inaugural Dance at the United States Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. when President Barack Obama took the Oath of Office. The HFCC musicians performed at National Museum of American History for approximately 4,000 attendees. In 2008, the Big Band performed in France and at the Montreaux International Jazz festival in Switzerland. Each year the group also appears at the Detroit Jazz Festival Labor Day weekend.

General admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by contacting Rick Goward at rgoward@hfcc.edu.
