Henry Ford Community College Presents 'Romancing the Figure' Art Exhibit

Henry Ford Community College presents its latest show, "Romancing the Figure," which showcases the artwork of six Detroit artists. The show runs Jan. 25-March 16.

A special reception is planned 6-8 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Sisson Gallery, located in the MacKenzie Fine Arts and Fitness Center on the main campus.

  • Sergio De Giusti: An Italian-born sculptor whose work has been shown around the world, including at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). He has taught art history and studio art classes at Wayne State University and sculpture at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit for more than 20 years.
  • Natalie Jane Estep: A Canton native and CCS alum, Estep works in mold making, casting and processing of metals. She also designed many of the sets seen in the independent film “Khu,” which was filmed in Trenton. Her art has appeared in the DIA, the Art Effect Gallery in Detroit, and the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe.
  • John Hegarty: A Kansas native and a two-time alumnus of the University of Iowa, Hegarty has had exhibitions all over the nation, including the Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
  • Craig Paul Nowak: Nowak, a CCS alumnus, has shown his work at the Art Effect Gallery in Detroit and the Brighton Art Guild in Brighton. He has taught art at the CCS, lectured at the Brighton Art Guild and at Walled Lake Western High School in Walled Lake.
  • Stanley Rosenthal: A professor of printmaking in the Department of Art and Art History at Wayne State – where he earned his graduate degree – Rosenthal has won awards his printmaking and paintings. He has been a juror and speaker at several venues, and previously served as chair of the Michigan Water Color Society, president of the Michigan Association of Printmakers and artist/adviser to the Graphic Arts Council of the DIA.
  • Nora Venturelli: A native of Argentina, Venturelli draws and paints figures, as well as landscapes. An alumna of the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University, she is an adjunct professor at both universities where she teaches drawing and painting.

“Romancing the Figure” exhibition hours are Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; or by appointment.
