Dearborn Symphony to Start Season with A Night at the Oscars

As the prepares to kick off its 51st season, the arts organization is hoping to raise funds to ensure that they’ll have a 52nd season, too–and well beyond.

A Night at the Oscars will invite supporters of the symphony to a black tie gala at the .

In true Oscar fashion, the Sept. 15 event will include a special “red carpet” walkway, as well as a silent auction, live music from a symphony pianist, dinner, and dancing. Setting the mood on the dance floor will be the Henry Ford Community College Big Band.

“It’ll be a fun night,” promised Dearborn Orchestral society President Sandra Butler. “It’s a dressy party with a lot of fun, with good food, good company and good music.”

And, most importantly, it’s for a good cause.

Butler explained that the goal is to raise enough from A Night at the Oscars to cover the costs of one concert.

“The point of this fundraiser is to support the symphony,” she added. “We’re very pleased that we’re able to enter our 51st season.”

The season will begin Oct. 5 with a mixture of classic and more contemporary songs, featuring a guest violin soloist. Following will be a concert of song and voice on Nov. 9 when the Vanguard Voices joins the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra.

Other highlights include the annual Pops Concert on Feb. 1, as well as the final performance on May 3, featuring the 2013 winners of the Youth Artist Solo Competition.

“It’s an exciting season of beautiful, spectacular, lively music,” Butler said of the upcoming season. “It’s classical, but it’s very accessible. A lot of music is stuff you might hear a lot.”

Tickets are available now for A night at the Oscars, and include $175 general admission tickets; $225 patron level tickets; and $300 benefactor tickets.
