Damn Yankees Debuts at Edsel Ford Wednesday Night

This musical theater production will take audiences back to the 1950s where a man sells his soul so that his baseball team can have a winning chance.

It's the devil versus man in s production of Damn Yankees, debuting at 7 p.m. Wednesday and running each night at the same time through Saturday.

Written in the Golden Age of Musical Theatre, this 1955 Broadway gem spins the classic tale of a man wanting something so badly he will sell his soul to obtain it.

A middle aged real estate agent named Joe Boyd sells his soul to the devil so that his favorite team can have "one long ball hitter" an a chance at winning. His wish granted, he becomes 22-year-old baseball star Joe Hardy. However, he must go back to his wife and avoid advances from the devil's top girl, Lola, or else lose his soul forever.

The musical stars junior Jared Nelson as the devil (also known as Mr. Applegate), senior Bruce Brown as Joe Hardy, junior Annelise Folkema as Boyd's wife Meg, and senior Michelle Kerr as Lola. A large supporting cast rounds out the ensemble, joined by many local elementary and middle school students who will play fans of the baseball star.

The show is directed by Edsel Ford teacher Robert Doyle and choreographed by Simone Calvas. Rick Pierce is directing the orchestra, accompanied by Fauna Navarre.

The box office will be open May 3 from 2:30-6 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $6 for students, children, and senior citizens; and $8 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8 and $10, respectively. All shows begin at 7 p.m. in the Edsel Ford auditorium.
