Arab American National Museum Announces Global Thursday Lineup

The 2012 installment of the series will start out with comedian Dean Obeidallah.

The 's next installment of their popular Global Thursday series will start out in a strange way: on a Friday.

It's an appropriate change, however, given the caliber of their first guest for the eclectic world music and performance art series.

This world music and performance art series starts on Friday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. with The Dean of Comedy, Dean Obeidallah. A leading figure in the burgeoning Arab American comedy movement, Obeidallah performs across the U.S.; he appeared on NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams late last year with Iranian American comedienne Negin Farsad, his partner on the in-production documentary The Muslims Are Coming.

On March 22, Global Thursdays welcomes back the powerful fusion double bill of Wisaal and Eastern Blok, followed by the brilliant Brazilian percussionist Nanny Assis with his musical compadres on April 26.

Closing out the series on May 17 is an act that has packed the AANM auditorium several times; now La Chispa and Company are back with a brand-new production, Duendeando, featuring some of the best American and Spanish flamenco artists backed by a live band.
