Couple Aides Dearborn Woman During House Fire

Micheal Kantz and Ashley Stone helped calm a 42-year-old resident when her house caught on fire earlier this month.

Driving home down Grindley Park, Micheal Kantz and Ashley Stone were startled when a barefoot hysterical woman jumped in front of their car. The woman, Dearborn resident Sara Ciampa, was so panic-stricken that it took the couple several attempts to understand what she was saying.

When they realized her house was on fire, they took immediate action. Kantz did his best to console the woman, even offering her his shoes and coat at one point, while Stone called the fire department.

Ciampa was distraught at the thought of her cats, still in the house, being harmed. The couple, along with their four-month-old daughter Madilynn, waited with Ciampa until police and fire departments showed up.

“With the world being the way it is today I was glad we were able to help. It was just a matter of being in the right place at the right time,” said Kantz.

The fire is believed to have started when one of the cats knocked over a candle in the living room. Ciampa recently sent the couple a letter on behalf of Dearborn Police Department thanking them for their heroics and kindness.

Both cats survived the fire.
