Weekend Yard Sale Benefits Dearborn Historical Museum

Donated items will be available at the museum on Friday and Saturday until 4 p.m.

Come one, come all to the giant yard sale in west Dearborn this Friday and Saturday.

The sale takes place just outside of the Dearborn Historical Museum, located at 915 Brady St. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The sale is sponsored by the Museum Guild of Dearborn and includes goods donated to the Guild throughout the past year. Visitors can purchase a $5 bag and take home whatever they can fit into it, unless an item is priced otherwise. Local vendors will also offer unique crafts and household goods in their booths.

"Turnout seems to be going well," said Rick Danes, president of the Museum Guild. "We've been collecting items all year, and we have a lot of stuff to sell."

All money made from items sold throughout the weekend will go to support the museum's operating budget. Available merchandise consists of clothes, Christmas decorations, jewelry, books and miscellaneous items, museum officials stressed. No museum exhibit items were sold.

"You can find a lot of treasures for a friend, or for yourself, by browsing the different tables," Danes said.

The sale is one of the Guild's largest fundraisers. Danes said proceeds from the three-day event average $1,100.

Danes said the Guild is also looking for more participation for its first golf outing, set for Aug. 5.

The cost is $90 per person (reduced from $100) at the Dearborn Hills Golf Course. The outing will feature 18 holes of golf with cart, a steak dinner and a two-hour wine-and-beer open bar after the round, as well as welcome gifts and prizes, a silent auction and refreshments on the course.
