Volunteers Needed for Dearborn Meals on Wheels Program

One to two hours of your time could help feed 10-12 Dearborn seniors in need of nutritious meals.

The city's Meals on Wheels program is urgently in need of volunteer drivers to help deliver food to Dearborn residents enrolled in the program.

The Meals on Wheels program is a Wayne County initiative, facilitated in Dearborn by the Senior Services Department. The program serves hundreds of home-bound seniors daily—many of whom do not otherwise have access to nutritious meals.

The program runs daily, Monday through Friday. Meals are picked up from the Dearborn Senior Center inside of the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.

Volunteers deliver meals using their own vehicles, and may participate as frequently as they choose, depending on their schedule. Volunteers may also sign up to be “on call,” to step in for another volunteer when necessary.

Each route delivers food to 10-12 seniors. Delivery is estimated to take around an hour to an hour and a half. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and posses a valid driver’s license.

All Meals on Wheels deliveries are made to people living in Dearborn in homes or senior apartments; no deliveries are made outside of the city.

Volunteer mileage is reimbursed by the county.
