Viewfinder: Farmers Market Off to Cold but Successful Start

With temperatures barely reaching 50 degrees, the Dearborn Farmers and Artisans Market opened May 27 to light crowds.

The rain held off, but the temperatures were chilly for the first day of the 2011 , which took place Friday behind the Bryant Library.

Things kicked off one week earlier than usual for the fifth year of the market, as flower and herb vendors tried to sell their goods to gardeners eager to spend their Memorial Day planting.

Around 20 vendors took up shop in the lot, selling everything from soaps and candles to ice cream and honey. Dearborn Thai restaurant Bangkok 96 did demonstrations of vegetarian foods, while a local singer performed tunes on his keyboard.
