Tie Dye is Colorful Start to Weekend of Fun at Dearborn Public Library

The library's Summer Reading Program is in full swing and offers weekly activities for children, teens and adults.

Dozens of area tweens enjoyed an afternoon of colorful tie dye art on the grounds of the Henry Ford Centennial Library during the library's weekly craft day on Wednesday.

The craft days are part of the library's Summer Reading Program and are a highly popular activity for teens and children.

"We usually fill up our available slots pretty fast," Rebecca Hermen, youth services librarian said. "Anyone that wants to participate should sign up at least a week in advance."

The library's Summer Reading Program began June 17 and runs through Aug. 2.

Next week's tween craft will take place at 2 p.m. and will feature bottle cap jewelry. Registration must be made by phone or in person at any Dearborn Public Library location.

In addition to the tween craft program, the library also offers a weekly drop-in craft day. Children of all ages can make and take a new project home each week.

"We usually have about 100 to 120 children at the drop-in events," Hermen said. "It's a great opportunity for moms and dads looking for a way to entertain their kids during the summer."
