Sports Blogger Says Gene Lamont Should Replace Jim Leyland

Rochester Hills resident Talal Fram loves the Red Wings, soccer and talking sports.

Many interesting people blog on Patch and we want to introduce you to some of them. Each week we will highlight a new Patch blogger.

Today, sports blogger Talal Fram answers our questions.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Rochester Hills for all 20 years of my life.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies include playing soccer and basketball, watching and analyzing most sports, and last but not least, video games.  Gotta play my Mario Kart!

Favorite book?

My favorite book is easily "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card.  I read it 4 times since the 8th grade, and I am excited for the movie coming out soon!

Favorite movie?

My favorite movie is actually the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy.  If I had to choose one, however, I loved the Two Towers because that's when the series really picks up its action.  Peter Jackson is a genius.

Favorite team?

My favorite team is definitely the Detroit Red Wings.  I have been watching them since I was 4 years old and their playoff streak is older than me!

Favorite athlete?

My favorite athlete might come as a surprise to most.  Edson Arantes do Nascimento, or as most know him, Pele, is my favorite athlete.  I played soccer for 13 years and he was my futbol idol!

How did you get involved in sports?

I got involved in sports because of my older brother, Issa.  He played soccer and basketball before anyone else in my family, and I looked up to him a lot and followed in his footsteps.  I am probably better than him in both sports now, but don't tell him I said that!

If there was one thing you could change in sports, what would it be?

If I can change one thing in sports, it would be the current safety renaissance going on in most major sports like in the NHL and NFL.  I believe many new rules are really invasive on the the full essence of the sports and is altering the intensity most athletes play with.

Who should replace Jim Leyland?

Replacing Jim Leyland and all the experience he had as a manager is tough, but it should be someone familiar with the team that we have in Detroit right now.  I believe Gene Lamont is the best replacement, even at age 66.  He has been with the team since 2006 and has the full respect of all the players in the clubhouse.
