Seniors Invited to Autumn Elderfest at Ford Field Park Sept. 13

A free, fun-filled day of outdoor activities will be held Sept. 13 at Ford Field Park.

Dearborn seniors, age 50 and older, are invited to attend this year’s Autumn Elderfest on Sept. 13 at Ford Field Park, 22051 Cherry Hill.

Hosted by the Senior Services Division of the Dearborn Recreation and Parks Department, Autumn Elderfest features a variety of activities.

New this year is a pie-baking contest. Interested bakers should register at the Senior Service’s office at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center through Sept. 12 and drop pies off at the Elderfest pie contest booth at Ford Field by 11 a.m. on Sept. 13. Bakers can try two categories: apple or berry.

This year’s festival will get underway with a breakfast at 10 a.m., sponsored by Henry Ford Village.

Bingo, sponsored by Howe-Peterson, will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The Fun Walk with Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr. starts at 11:30 a.m. It’s preceded by warm-up exercises with Dominique, sponsored by the Detroit Medical Center, at 11:15 a.m.

The bocce ball courts will open at 11:30 a.m. and remain open during the duration of the festival.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the group Family Affair beginning at 11:45 a.m.

A free lunch will be served at noon and features hot dogs, corn on the cob and soft drinks sponsored by the Exchange Club of Dearborn, the Hearing Center of Excellence and Assurant Care LLC.

Wayne County Commission Chairman Gary Woronchak will serve ice cream at 12:30 p.m.

Elderfest will wrap up after lunch with the anniversary waltz, sponsored by Mike Sareini and the Dearborn Inn at 1 p.m., followed by a raffle, sponsored by state Rep. George Darany at 2:15 p.m.
