Ride Into 2013 With Dearborn Bike Club's First Dozen
The annual bike ride through the city takes place Jan. 1 at 2 p.m.
A predicted high temperature of 25 degrees on New Year's Day will likely mean staying indoors for many Dearborn residents. But for the Cycling Saddlemen, it just means they'll need extra layers to ring in 2013.
The local bicycle club will host their 41st annual First Dozen bicycle ride on Jan. 1 at 2 p.m., urging bicycle enthusiasts of all levels to start off the new year with a some exercise.
"It's always more fun when it's nicer weather," Saddlemen member Jim Boylan said. "But it's fun anyway."

The event gets its name from the fact that it's literally the first dozen miles the club rides every year. The 12 miles begin at the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge on Mason, heads east toward the Southfield Freeway, looping around to Outer Drive before cutting west to Gulley Road. Cherry Hill then takes bicyclists back into west downtown.
Riders are equipped with maps, and Dearborn police follow the routes to make sure no one gets lost or hurt.

All you need to join in is a bicycle, a helmet, and a lot of warm clothes.
Online registration for the First Dozen is now closed. Day-of registration begins at 1 p.m. at the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge, located at 1170 Mason Street. Registration is $15 per person, or $35 per family, and includes treats and soup at the finish. The ride starts at 2.
