Neglected Dog Finds New Home in Dearborn

The Dearborn Animal Shelter adopted out a pitbull that was found in an abandoned home in June.

neglected pitbull found near death by Dearborn police officers two weeks ago is on the way to recovery and was adopted from the Dearborn Animal Shelter on Friday.

Sandra Boulton, a representative for the shelter, said the dog's owner surrendered it to the shelter after police discovered the dog tied to a pole in an abandoned home in the 24000 block of Ross Street on June 9.

"The animal was cared for until it was healthy enough to be put back into our adoptable pool," Boulton said. "We're glad this story has a happy ending. The dog has a new, loving home and a family that will give it a long, healthy life."

Boulton said she does not know if any criminal charges are pending against the dog's previous owner.

The Dearborn Animal Shelter is competing in a national adoption challenge, and is hoping to place 779 animals in homes by Aug. 31. For more information, visit the Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter's Facebook page.
