Michigan Humane Society Brings 'Bow Wow Brunch' to Dearborn

The April 28 fundraiser will benefit homeless animals in the Dearborn community.

The Michigan Humane Society will celebrate its love for furry four-legged animals during the 24th annual "Bow Wow Brunch" fundraiser on April 28 at the Dearborn Inn.

A limited number of tickets are available for the event, which includes live and silent auctions featuring more than 100 items, a champagne reception, local celebrities and adoptable animals.

“The Michigan Humane Society provides tens of thousands of animals with care each year, and we can only do what we do with the support of this wonderful community,” said Cal Morgan, president and CEO of the Michigan Humane Society in a press release.

“The Bow Wow Brunch is a great way for us to celebrate the work that’s being done to help animals in metro Detroit. We hope to see old friends and new faces this year as we work toward a brighter future for all our pets," Morgan said.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with emcee Eli Zaret, the former voice of the Detroit Pistons. The fundraiser will feature a champagne reception followed by brunch with menu options that include chicken, vegetarian and vegan dishes, as well as a special dessert created for the event.

Live auction items include a ceremonial first pitch package at a Detroit Tigers game, and four tickets to watch the Detroit Lions play the Baltimore Ravens, including a visit to the sidelines before the game.

Other items up for bid include a chance to enjoy breakfast with the giraffes at the Detroit Zoo, a private dinner for 25 at Hudson’s Cafe, and the opportunity to have a pet featured on the cover of the 2014 MHS calendar.

The silent auction will feature more than 100 items. The event will also feature local celebrities and community members who have volunteered to be “in the doghouse” and raise money to get bailed out — to help homeless animals in need. Each doghouse volunteer will have a goal of raising $5,000 to get out of the doghouse, and will represent an MHS service, such as adoption, cruelty investigation and low-cost spay/neuter.

Tickets to the Bow Wow Brunch are $200 and seating is limited. To reserve tickets, call 248-283-5634, or purchase tickets online at www.michiganhumane.org.
