Dearborn's first pop-up art gallery will be held in conjunction with the weekly concerts. The gallery opens July 17.

DEARBORN — The popular "Jazz on the Avenue" concerts will kick-off in east Dearborn beginning July 10.

The concerts will take place at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Schaefer Road on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and will feature food from local restaurants available for purchase on site.

This year's concert line-up includes:

As part of this year's Jazz on the Avenue, the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority will feature Dearborn’s first pop-up art gallery. The show will transform an unoccupied office space at 13742 Michigan Avenue into a gallery featuring 12 professional artists in action. The temporary art gallery, titled "12 on 12," will be located directly across from Dearborn City Hall.

Admission to "12 on 12" is free and opens to the public on July 17 at 5 p.m. with an official ribbon cutting, and remains open until 10 p.m. The gallery will be open on two additional Wednesday evenings, July 24 and 31, from 5 to 10 p.m.

“Pop-ups have become popular across the country as communities look for new and creative ways to attract visitors and provide options for unused spaces to spur economic development,” said EmmaJean Woodyard, executive director of the Dearborn Community Fund. “The 12 on 12 pop-up art gallery is an exciting addition to the lineup of events that are held in Dearborn to attract visitors to our business districts.”

The 12 on 12 pop-up gallery highlights a variety of art forms including painting, sculpture, ceramics and cartoon art. Participating artists will engage in creating new work as well as showcasing finished works displayed throughout the gallery.

Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the artists, observe the creative process, purchase art and vote to determine three award winners including a People’s Choice Award.

Featured artists include: painters Mohamad Bazzi, Daniel Cascardo, Lindsey Harnish, Ralph Hashoian, Martine MacDonald; sculptors Mark Beltchenko and Keith Coleman; cartoonist and graphic artist Sean Bieri; mixed media artists Gwen Joy, Elise Mesner and Michael Ross; and the Henry Ford Community College Ceramics Club.

The 12 on 12 pop-up gallery and Jazz on the Avenue are projects of the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority. Additional support comes from Oakwood Healthcare and the Dearborn Community Fund.
