'Do the WRITE Thing' for Troops This Veterans Day

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is encouraging people to “Do the WRITE Thing” and send messages of support to our troops overseas this Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11.  

• The Salvation Army is encouraging citizens to go online and leave messages on its Facebook page and Twitter account @Salmich.
• Community members can also visit the "Do the WRITE Thing" website to submit a personal message that The Salvation Army will send to service men and women currently serving overseas.

The Salvation Army has a long history of supporting veterans, which began with a lassie serving coffee and doughnuts to soldiers on the battle field during World War I. The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit continues its support by providing transitional housing for homeless veterans in Detroit, including shelter specifically for female veterans.

“Do the Write Thing is our special way of showing our troops that we appreciate their great service and sacrifice to our country,” said Major Mark Anderson, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s general secretary and metro Detroit area commander. “This program continues to evolve as social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, make it even easier to say ‘thanks’ to our service men and women.”
