Dearborn Veterans Mark 60th Anniversary of Korean War Armistice

A special ceremony was held at the Henry Ford Centennial Library on July 26.

The Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council marked the 60th anniversary of the armistice agreement ending the hostilities of the Korean War at a ceremony on July 26 at the Henry Ford Centennial Library.

Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr. and U.S. Rep. John Dingell joined other dignitaries to honor veterans who had served in the war, those still missing from the war, and all who died, including the 26 men from Dearborn. The conflict spanned June 1950-July 1953.

The ceremony is organized each year by a committee of the DAWVC, led by John Ruselowski, who served in the Korean War. Dearborn’s annual ceremony began in 2001, during commemorations marking the 50th anniversary of the war.

The city of Dearborn provides support for the ceremony each year.

Keynote Speaker Brig. Gen. Joseph Martin grew up in Dearborn and was the grand marshal at the 2010 Memorial Day parade.
