Dearborn Shelter Hosts Casino Night to Benefit Homeless Animals

The Dearborn Animal Shelter's annual night of gaming and entertainment helps raise money to benefit homeless cats and dogs.

Stop singing the winter blues and enjoy sun, sand, and surf at the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s 9th annual Cool Cat Casino Night, a fun-filled evening out for gamers and non-gamers alike.

This Hawaiian-themed party brings a February warm front to Michigan while raising money to help homeless animals become adoptable pets.

Casino Night runs from 7 p.m.to midnight on Saturday, Feb. 15, and takes place at the O’Kelly Banquet Hall, 23663 Park St., in Dearborn. The event includes chances to win at classics like Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, Blackjack, and Let It Ride. New for 2014: Tempt Lady Luck at the roulette table. All games feature cash payouts for winners.

Three lucky winners will also take home some “cool cash.” This year’s Cool Cat raffle features three cash payout prizes: $750, $500, and $250. The raffle is generously subsidized by The Envelope Printery, and owner Dave Hamilton.

A maximum of 2,000 raffle tickets will be sold for the drawing. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased during Casino Night, or in advance at the Dearborn Animal Shelter. Participants need not be present at Casino Night to win.

The Cool Cat Casino Night tickets include an open bar, bountiful buffet, and hourly door prizes. The centerpiece of the luau spread will be a taco bar with all the sides (vegetarian, too) donated by the Dearborn Heights Del Taco. Tickets for this adult-only event are $30 in advance at the Shelter or online, $35 at the door. Cool Cat is often a sell-out evening, so don’t delay.

Sponsorships for Casino Night are also still available. Beginning at just $250, a business can “own & creatively promote” at gaming tables, plus receive complimentary tickets to the event. For more information, call the Shelter directly.

According to Cool Cat sponsor Lisa Dufresne, managing partner of Del Taco, "I chose to come onboard as a supporter because I know the difference the Dearborn Animals Shelter makes in the lives of so many animals, and I want to be a part of promoting that. I encourage everyone to become involved as well."
