Dearborn Lights the Torch for United Way

The city continues a long history of fundraising for United Way of Southeastern Michigan heading into each holiday season.

City of Dearborn employees last month renewed their commitment to contributing to United Way, which helps those in need throughout Dearborn and metro Detroit.

The annual fund drive was kicked off at Dearborn City Hall by Mayor Jack O’Reilly on Oct. 9.

Zhera Alsalehi, a student at Snow Elementary School, served as this year’s United Way torchlighting child. She represented those who benefit from the organizations supported by United Way. Mayor O’Reilly and Shannon Proctor, director of Corporate Relations for United Way for Southeastern Michigan, joined Alsalehi as she flipped the switch to light the torch. Also attending the ceremony were Alsalehi’s family members and her teacher, Allison Dumke.
