'Smoke on the Grill' Fundraiser Hits Ford Field Park Thursday

Proceeds from the annual fundraiser will benefit Dearborn Public Schools students.

The smell of barbecue will permeate the air at Ford Field Park on Thursday during the Dearborn Goodfellows' annual "Smoke on the Grill" fundraiser.

The event features food, door prizes, games and raffles, and takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children ages 16 and younger. The highlight of the event is a raffle drawing for a new furnace.

For the second straight year, Mechanical Heating and Cooling is sponsoring a special "Beat the Chill" raffle that gives ticket holders a chance to win a high-efficiency furnace. Tickets are only $5, and only 1,000 will be sold.

"'Smoke on the Grill' showcases the community support and solidarity that is felt for the Goodfellows and the needy children of Dearborn," Goodfellows President Larry Johnson wrote on the organization's website.

Originating with former Dearborn Mayor Michael Guido, the Dearborn Goodfellows have continued the tradition of fundraising to support Dearborn children. As part of this tradition, the proceeds from "Smoke on the Grill" will be shared with the Dearborn Public Schools through the Parent Teacher Student Association.
