Dearborn Farmers Market Season is So Close You Can Almost Taste It

On this snowy March day, it’s a good reminder that farmers market season is just around the corner.

The Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce is finalizing plans for the market, which will open May 30, The Press & Guide reports. Some of the items available at the kickoff market celebrating the arrival of spring (we hope) will be flowers, perennials and shrubs.

Many of last year’s farmers, artisans and other vendors are expected to return to the market and offer a variety of produce at the market, which will be staged every Friday from 9 a.m-2 p.m. through Oct. 17 in the Bryant Public Library parking lot at Michigan Avenue and Mason.

Vendor applications are currently being accepted by the Chamber of Commerce, with early-bird rates of $175 for the season or $15 for a single day applying for those signing up before March 31. After that, seasonal and daily rates increase $190 and $20, respectively.

Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce President Jackie Lovejoy expects the market to be better than ever this year with new vendors and activities for the entire family.

“Besides a community event, the market supports local farmers and businesses, encouraging healthy eating with quality, fresh, wholesome food,” she said. “Our carefully selected vendors will be selling seasonal Michigan produced farm products and baked goods, cheeses, meats, art, soaps, salsas, jams and jellies and woodworking products.

“As in previous years, local grade school teachers will bring students to the market for class projects, to learn money management, and the importance of healthy foods,” Lovejoy added. “Additionally, the Dearborn Farmers and Artisan Market will continue to offer the Double Up Food Bucks EBT program for qualified participants as well as the Project Fresh and Bridge Cards.”
