The City of Dearborn has declared a snow emergency effective at 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

All parked vehicles must be removed from city streets by 10 p.m. to allow for safe and efficient snowplowing. Vehicles in the street during the snow emergency may be ticketed, the city reported.

Sirens will sound at 10 p.m. and again at 11 p.m. on Saturday to announce the snow emergency. It will remain in effect until further notice.

For more information, call the Snow Plowing Hotline at (313) 943-2444.

Cars must be off the street, does that mean that parking one's cars on the front lawn of one's property, behind the sidewalk of course, is acceptable? After all, it is now all one big 'white' driveway.

My neighbors are not getting the word about snow emergencies. I called the people next-door. But--if anything-- there are more cars on the street in my block than usual, which makes it harder for plows to do their work. Many of them don't watch local TV stations. A better effort to get them all to sign up for Nixle on their phones might help.

Sunday and still my street is NOT plowed

Saturday at 11 pm and most of the Dearborn streets seem to be plowed, at least on the west side. Parking on the big white driveways in front of the houses works fine.
