Curbside Yard Waste Program Resumes March 14

Dearborn residents can get a jump-start on spring yard cleaning when the city's yard waste pickup season begins this Monday.

Though the snow is still melting, the city of Dearborn is giving residents a chance to kick off their spring cleaning early when the city's curbside yard waste program kicks off Monday, March 14.

The program lasts through mid-December.

Beginning on Monday, residents can also put out yard waste on their trash collection day in approved containers.

Yard waste is classified as grass clippings, weeds, leaves, and shrub and brush trimmings. Fruits, vegetables, dirt, sod and animal droppings should not be mixed in to yard waste. Roots should be free of dirt.

Brush can be up to 4 feet in length and 3 inches in diameter. It should be tied with heavy cord or rope and weigh no more than 35 pounds. Shrubs should be bundled the same way, with root balls removed.

Waste must be placed in 20- to 32-gallon bags or bins, or in paper bags. Containers should be marked with yard waste stickers, which are available for free at the Dearborn public libraries, mayor’s office, and Public Works Yard. Cardboard boxes and plastic bags are not permitted.
