Historical Museum Golf Benefit Set for Aug. 5

If you don’t play golf – even if you’ve never touched a club – the Museum Guild of Dearborn wants to see you at its first annual golf outing anyway.

There are still openings for foursomes who want to play, but the Guild also is encouraging non-golfers to attend a 3 p.m. steak buffet and a silent auction following the play. The outing is scheduled for Aug. 5 at Dearborn Hills Golf Course as a fund raiser for the Dearborn Historical Museum.

The event is a $100-a-person scramble, including 18 holes of golf with cart, meal and a two-hour wine-and-beer open bar after the round. Golfers will also receive welcoming gifts, prizes and refreshments on the course. The buffet is $25 for those not playing golf; the sign-up deadline for the buffet is July 29.

A portion of the charges is tax-deductible under the Guild’s status as a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Tax receipts will be available at the course during the sign-in process at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5, followed by an 11 a.m. tee-off for the shotgun start. Members of the Dearborn Allied War Council will perform a flag-raising and honor salute during sign-in.

The outing will consist of a maximum of 18 teams, and the Guild is urging prospective golfers not to delay in registering. Registration forms are available at the museum office at 915 Brady, just north of Michigan Avenue, or from Guild President Rick Danes at 313-363-3560.  Businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring a hole or making a donation also are asked to contact Danes.

The golf outing is the latest fund raiser sponsored by the Guild, which has supported the museum through volunteers since 1957. The Guild this year has sponsored the museum’s annual volunteer brunch, the opening of a “Dearborn Sports Legends” exhibit, an annual Pioneer Program for second-graders and an annual garage sale. The group is also considering sponsoring the third volume of “Dearborn’s Best Stories” later this year.
