Residents of American House Senior Living Communities will begin their annual Holiday Hope for Seniors campaign to help local area senior citizens. All are welcome to attend an annual tree lighting kick off ceremony on Thursday, December 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at every southeastern Michigan American House. For a list of communities participating, please visit http://www.americanhouse.com/senior_living/locations.
Holiday Hope for Seniors begins with seniors at American House wanting to do their part to help their less fortunate peers during the holiday season. In addition to pledging their dollars to help those in need, many also pledge their time by helping hand pack personal items, which are then delivered to local area senior citizens in need.
“It’s heartwarming to see our senior residents so passionate about helping their less fortunate peers,” said Rob Gillette, chief operating officer of American House. “Age is not a barrier – they still want to do their part to make an impact in the community.”
Holiday Hope for Seniors is now a signature program of partner nonprofit the American House Foundation and will provide aid for over 800 seniors in need, none of whom are residents of American House Senior Living Communities.
During the tree lighting celebrations, ornaments will be placed on the trees with a senior’s name, age and their holiday need. Residents and guests at the ceremonies will buy the ornaments, which range between $5 and $20 with 100 percent of the donation going directly to the seniors in need.
To identify senior citizens in need, the American House Foundation has partnered with Lighthouse of Oakland County, The Senior Alliance, The Information Center, Adult Well-Being Services, and The Luella Hannan Memorial Foundation.
In addition to generous donations by individuals, corporate sponsors help drive the fundraiser, including Proforma, REDICO, CONTINUUM, The Medical Team, National Wholesale Printing, Spark Creative, Bank of America, DePadua Construction, Hospice of Michigan and Statewide Disaster Service.
